Our story
From the first notes to international stages – a journey shaped by passion, creativity, and unforgettable moments.
LYRIEL’s music blends Celtic Music, Symphonic Metal, Folk, and alternative influences, resulting in a unique and distinctive sound. Their songs span a range of styles, from sensitive and dreamy ballads with medieval influences to more intense and classical compositions with folk elements. Singer Jessica Thierjung´s powerful but gentle voice produces LYRIEL’s special atmosphere.
LYRIEL, formed in 2003, has come a long way since its inception. Starting out by playing local concerts, they quickly caught the attention of music enthusiasts with their unique style.
In early 2005, LYRIEL made their mark in the music industry with the release of their debut album, “Prisonworld”. One standout track on this album is “Lind e-huil”, a mesmerizing song sung in Sindarin, the fictional language of the elves in J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings”. As LYRIEL’s popularity grew, so did their opportunities.
The band was invited to make a guest appearance on XANDRIA’s album “India”, further solidifying their presence in the music scene. LYRIEL also supported ELIS and VISIONS OF ATLANTIS on their tour.
In autumn 2006, LYRIEL released their second album, “Autumntales”. The album resonated, received praise for its atmospheric compositions and was often compared to BLACKMORE’S NIGHT. LYRIEL re-issued their debut and second album as a special 2-CD set titled “The First Chapters” in mid-2009. During this time, they ventured into the enchanting realm of medieval markets, captivating audiences with their acoustic set.
In December 2009 the third album “Paranoid Circus” was released, which again earned positive reviews from the press, as well as from fans worldwide. Simon Jäger, who is most recognized as the German voiceover artist for Josh Hartnett and Heath Ledger, lent his voice for the album’s introduction, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the listening experience in one of the songs. After signing with AFM Records, “Paranoid Circus” was re-released with new cover artwork and two bonus tracks in April 2011. The simultaneously released video clip for the title track gained more than half a million views within a few months and proved that the popularity of LYRIEL is unbroken.
LYRIEL’s fourth album, “Leverage”, came out in February 2012, showcasing powerful compositions while maintaining their signature sound. A special guest appearance by SCHANDMAUL singer Thomas Lindner added an extra touch to the album with the song “Wenn die Engel fallen”. With over 8 million streams on Spotify, the title track “Leverage” is their most successful track.
The release of their fifth album “Skin And Bones” in September 2014, marked yet another milestone in LYRIEL’s journey. The album is varied, melodic and despite new influences and a bit tougher stance, typical LYRIEL. This time it was Christian Älvestam’s (ex-Scar Symmetry, Solution .45) turn to sing the duet with Jessica. The release led the band to successful tours in Mexico and Europe in 2015/2016.
In 2015, LYRIEL released the EP “TEN”. This EP featured six newly recorded songs from their earlier albums, “Prisonworld” and “Autumntales”, along with the addition of a new track titled “The Sailor”.
LYRIEL already appeared as the opening act for VISIONS OF ATLANTIS, XANDRIA, SCHANDMAUL, LEAVES EYES, TANZWUT, FIDDLERS GREEN, SALTATIO MORTIS, OOMPH!, SCHELMISH, KORPIKLAANI and MANFRED MANN’S EARTH BAND.
After a longer musical break LYRIEL celebrated their 20th band anniversary by surprising fans in November, 2023. They chose one of their older songs, “Numbers”, specifically for this occasion and transformed it into a unique acoustic version. This reinterpretation was an emotional journey for the band, motivated by their intention to show gratitude and appreciation towards their loyal fans who have accompanied them throughout the years.
With a renewed passion and creative energy, LYRIEL returned to the music scene with their latest single “Odyssey of Dreams”, released in April 2024. In September 2024 they successfully collaborated with the Metal Act “Anna KiaRa” on her single “Springtime Harmony”, which was very well received by the fans.
